Proposal for Roadsonmyface

27 year old Female
I am in Austin, TX.
Where in North America I would like to travel this summer and why.
The route I imagine taking.
What I would like to write about and photograph.
I keep staring blankly at the wall in my little cubicle. It's about the same as the last cubicle I inhabited. I can't quite figure out how I ended up here, but every little fiber of my knows it's all wrong. From a child of gypsies to another office drone-funny where life puts you, or where you end up putting yourself. As I dream while I'm supposed to be working, I think of the lush forests and verdants landscapes of all the places I've yet to see, the coastal plains I haven't had the chance to explore. My ass hurts from this hard cold chair man, this can't be where I belong! I would love to travel the backroads of Appalachia, the forgotten swamps in the Everglades, the quiet countrysides of New York and Maine. I see myself starting in Austin and travelling along the coast, up to Canada, and north- maybe as far as Alaska. I hear the moose in the summer are crazy... :)
I want to write about the quiet nights under the stars, take pictures of old hotels and restaurants with waitresses named Flo. I want to remember that I do belong...just out on the road. I can't ever truly belong with the masses. It don't seem right.
Why I want to travel and what I think I will accomplish.
I want to travel because I feel the urge, it's in my bones and my blood. I travelled when I was younger because I didn't have a choice, though I still loved every minute of it. Now that the choice is here, something holds me back. I guess it's myself. And I guess I need to break through that self-imposed barrier somehow. Maybe I just need an opportunity, and I'm not sure how to make it happen. I get caught up sometimes in waiting for an opportunity, and then I get confused about when I'm supposed to make one myself.
I don't want to accomplish so much as I want to DO. I'm tired of accomplishing all the time. I accomplished school, I accomplished work, I accomplished buying a house- all by myself. But all that accomplishing makes me feel a little empty. Maybe I just need a break.
My background, interests, talents and aspirations.
I grew up on the road. I was born in Arizona and two days later we were in California. I never knew what it was like to have a home, and I loved it. I read more books in my first 12 years than most people read in a lifetime- I had a lot of free time. I can't stand it when people put apostrophes where they don't belong. I'm interested in hippies, in people who live on islands, in horse trainers and in where stereotypes come from. My aspiration was always to write, never anything else. And travel, to travel as much as I could. I ended up writing for a living, but it wasn't at all what I thought. I thought I'd be writing things I could care about, things that might even have my name attached to them. I thought I'd be travelling as much as I did when I was a kid. Around 13 we became stationary in New Mexico, and it was a hard adjustment to make. Ever since then, I've been mostly unsuccessful in trying to find that freedom on my own. I'm a gypsy at heart, just trying to find home.
Some of my writing and photography.
I have several photographs on my Myspace homepage.... check it out at www.myspace.com/angelsthumbprint. I also have some at www.alannaroethle.com. It says I'm a professional but right now all I've got is an old film Nikon...
As for writing, here's a few old links. I write a bunch of stuff for people without my name attached these days...I'm just a ghost of a writer. http://alannaroethle.wordpress.com/, http://www.roadandtravel.com/adventuretravel/travelingwithyourpet.htm, http://www.roadandtravel.com/roadtests/reviews/2005roadtests/newcarreviews/landroverlr3.htm, http://media.www.roundupnews.com/media/storage/paper474/news/2002/09/16/News/Nmsu-Seeks.New.Student.Regent-274171.shtml

Give her the money, and give her the freedom so I can live vicariously through her travels!

She is so deserving of this. She accomplishes all that she puts her mind too and does an amazing job at everything. She is so deserving of this and you would make the absolute right choice by picking her!!

Alana is amazing. She meets people everywhere she goes that are just as interesting as she is. People are just drawn to her, so I think she would make a great choice for this. On top of how outgoing she is, she is an amazing writer and would articulate her journey better than anyone else could! I've never known anyone as fun and as full of life. C'mon her mind is way to great to be stuck in a cubicle all day!!

Alanna's a natural traveler. She is fun and outgoing. She has an adventurous streak in her that takes her to many places that others might not be willing to go to. It is this willingness and her love for discovery that makes her the perfect canidate to travel the country. In addition she is able to articulate her thoughts into insightful and interesting writing. She is the perfect person for this and it would be a waste to not give her this chance of a lifetime. You won't regret choosing her.

If you don't choose Alanna, you will surely be missing out, along with all of us who are so anxious to "tag along" on her discoveries! She has the want, the will, and the passion for this. Please give her the opportunity she deserves.

If I had to pick anyone I know for this project, it would be Alanna, hands down. She's perfect for it, because she knows what she's signing up for, and knows she'll love it. And so will all of us- her writing has always been entertaining, and anyone who has even glanced at her photography understands what a treat we're in for if she's chosen. Really, with a candidate like Alanna, who would pick anyone else?

Alanna is the OLNY choice for this adventure. Her talent to not only tell how she feels and what she sees, but to also make everyone else feel what she feels and what she sees is amazing. Her descriptions are so vivid, so raw, so enchanting that one can't help but to be drawn into whatever she is writing about. Her ability to make her pictures come alive, to speak to those who have seen them is unbelievable. One of her pictures is truly worth a thousand words. Choose Alanna and give everyone else the chance to experience what we know she is capable of doing.

Alanna is one of those people that you meet, and then you really want to be friends with and get to know better. She's smart, funny, beautiful, and incredibly friendly. These qualities would make her an excellent traveler and she would be sure to have fantastically interesting adventures along the way. I, for one, want to hear about them!

I'd love to read more from Alanna - she writes well and her photographs are wonderful. Actually she had me when she mentioned a waitress named Flo... Good luck Alanna!

Adrenachrome, That name makes any Gonzo thirsty. What an odd coincidence that the graduation party for the Roads Scholar at Burning Man will be held in the "Bat Country" gonzo camp. Perhaps we should be serving shots of Adrenachrome? To use a phrase I use too often, you're "far out" - maybe even way far out. I suspect your friends are right about you having the right stuff to create a journey that many would want to follow. It appears you have the skills to communicate it as well.

I vote for Alanna, hands down. We met at work right before she moved to Austin and in that short time, she showed me more about Tucson than I had seen in the past 3 years combined. She's just got a knack for finding those crazy cool people and places that the rest of us just wish we knew about. Thanks to her, I now know about all the great getaways that were right under my nose, the best spot for Mexican food and even crazy burlesque shows that happen downtown. I'm pretty sure Adrenachrome is installed with some sort of tracking radar that just draws the rest of us to her. I can't wait to read all about her adventures.

Alanna is talented and funny, genuinely interesting and such a free spirit. She can tell a story and suck you in. I have never met someone who wants to live life more than her, and you'd be crazy not to want her perspective from the road. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll ask yourself, "what the hell"? Hands down you'll sure to be entertained!!
