Scholars Hit the Road
Last month four aspiring vagabonds were chosen from over 100 proposals to be this years “Roads Scholars“. Their assignment is to road trip North America this summer and share their adventures with us online. Their journeys will culminate with a graduation ceremony in the Black Rock Desert the first week of September during the Burning Man Festival.
We invite you to follow their journeys online and then come to the Burning Man Festival to meet them in person at our camp and participate in their “graduation” ceremony. I’m confident it will be the strangest graduation you ever attend.
Road Scholars – Kyle and JoAnna – began their road trips this past week. They will be followed close behind by Marina, who is casting off appropriately, right after Independence Day. Alanna (aka Road on My Face) will begin her road trip to Burning Man at the end of August.
JoAnna, began the first leg of her roadtrip this past week to visit Kings Canyon in the Sierra Nevadas of California. She has already written extentensively about her road trip from Las Vegas to the canyons on her blog Kaleidoscopic Wanderings.
Kyle flew from New York City to the San Francisco Bay area this past week and is now up in the lake Tahoe area. He plans to soon drop in on Ed Buryn, the author of Vagabonding in the USA, at Ed’s farm commune in the Sierra Nevada foothills. He’s in for a treat.
Kyle plans on winding his way through the Western states with stops at Yosemite, Zion National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, the Badlands, Yellowstone, Glacier, Seattle, Portland and finally Black Rock City for the Burning Man Festival. His blog should be ready for prime time soon.
