Just as Batman needed to be Bruce Wayne by day to fund his crime fighting spree, I need to be a web publisher by day to fund my vagabond life. My vagabond road show takes money, which my web publishing ventures enable me to generate from any place that is online.
I’ve kept my vagabond life a secret from my physician clients over the years. For them to see my vagabond alter ego roaming wide and free would likely produce resentment, gossip and jealousy – all of which are bad for business.
But some times the demands of work, travel and sharing it online stretch me to the brink. This month I hosted a ten year anniversary party for my online patient advocacy community at the top of a skyscraper in Montreal, Canada. Some of the top cosmetic surgeons in the world were invited, while Dr. Quackaplaticus (my nemesis) and his lovely hot nurses crashed our party. This event came right on the heels of me living unplugged in the remote Black Rock Desert for a week during the Burning Man Festival.
On the last day of Burning Man I had to race out of the desert, park Destiny and get on a plane in Reno to arrive in Montreal just in time to make final arrangements for the ten year anniversary party. Like a quick costume change, I transformed from wearing goggles and day glow into a suit and tie.
I took the beauty, excitement and inspiration of Burning Man with me to Montreal and we had one Hell of a party. I expect to continue living my double life and letting the best of both lives feed and support each other.
